A modular synthetic approach to a wide range of new imidazole-fused N-heterocycles was developed utilizing 4-acylated 1-aminopyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazines as versatile intermediates whose amidine moiety was elaborated in a diversity-oriented manner to allow facile access to polyfunctionalized imidazoles, thereby leading to imidazole-pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrazine hybrids.
