Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effect of ethanol extract from immature Rubus coreanus fruit
Immature Rubus coreanus (R. coreanus) fruit has been reported to have improve erectile dysfunction, anti-diabetic, anit-obesity, hepatoprotective and whitening effect. Ellagic acid is the major compound of R. coreanus and marker compound. The content of ellagic acid in immature R. coreanus extract (RCE) was quantitavely analyzed by using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The ROS and ONOO- scavenging assays were performed to evaluate the anti-oxidant effect of RCE. To investigate the anti-inflammatory properties of RCE, the gene expression of inflammatory cytokines in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated RAW 264.7 cells was measured. The content of ellagic acid with RCE was 0.12%. The result of anti-oxidation with RCE showed that ROS scavenging acitivity was incresed in a concentration-dependent mannar and ONOO- scavenging activity was significant at all concentrations. When the gene expression of inflammatory cytokines was measured, it was confirmed that RCE reduced the expression of inflammatory cytokines in LPS-treated RAW 264.7cells.
