Strategies for ensuring the economic viability of pharmaceutical research through expediting AI-based regulation processes
Pursuant to Article 15 of the Bioethics Act in Republic of Korea, human subject research must undergo IRB review. Therefore, IRB review is essential for the pharmaceutical research involving human subjects. Pharmaceutical research, which forms the core of Korea's healthcare industry, needs to secure economic viability through rapid development. In this situation, the purpose of this study was to identify areas where pharmaceutical research IRB review work can be replaced by using chatbots, an interactive artificial intelligence, in the pharmaceutical IRB environment. Therefore, we looked into what kind of focus it would be possible to replace tasks using chatbots. To this end, analyzing 1,803 phone inquiry data from University Hospital and divided into areas that could be replaced by chatbot answers and areas that could not. Through this, this study sought a method of IRB digital transformation in pharmaceutical research. Since the administrative procedures required in the IRB review environment can't be carried out and bothered by due to responding to administrative inquiry calls from other studies, if the time related to IRB review, which is the time essential for pharmaceutical research, can be shortened, there will be numerous economic benefits. Therefore, this research can be used to improve methods to enable further pharmaceutical research to proceed while maintaining the quality of pharmaceutical research and research participant protection work.
